Environmental Science

Fugro Environmental are based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and staffed by highly qualified and experienced marine scientists providing accurate and detailed environmental surveys to the highest standard. Particular areas of expertise include:

  1. Baseline environmental surveys: providing important input into environmental statements and licence applications
  2. Post-drill and monitoring surveys
  3. Protected habitat survey (e.g. Annex I habitats)
  4. Biotope mapping and satellite imaging analysis
  5. Deepwater surveys (up to 3000m)
  6. Intertidal and terrestrial surveys
  7. Marine mammal surveys
  8. Environmental reporting
  9. Environmental sample analysis (marine sediments/soils, water and air quality)

Environmental assessments are assuming increasing importance in all areas of offshore operations.  Our dedicated Environmental Division enables us to offer more comprehensive and fully integrated site investigation package.

In 2010 the Fugro group acquired the environmental consultancy firm ERT (Scotland) ( http://www.ert.co.uk/ ).  This allows the Fugro Environmental department to offer an extended and comprehensive range of environmental services to cover almost any eventuality.  The expanded activities include:

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Risk Assessment
  • Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
  • Effluent and emissions modelling and assessment
  • Oil spill studies and contingency planning
  • Legislative guidance
  • Environmental sensitivity studies

Please use the 'contact us' link on the side of this page for futher information on any of these areas

  • EBS2

    Environmental Baseline Surveys

Environmental baseline surveys are the most comprehensive environmental survey that Fugro offers, in terms of gathering data from sediments, water column and atmosphere
  • EBS1

    Post-Drill and Decommissioning Surveys

These surveys typically include assessing the physico-chemical and faunal abundance and comparing the results with the pre-installation baseline survey to evaluate the impacts as a result of the development
  • Habitat 2

    Protected Habitat Surveys

Fugro Environmental have a wide range of experience in conducting site assessments for protected habitats in the United Kingdom, Norway and Worldwide
  • Biotype1

    Biotope and Satellite Mapping

Tapping into the resources of the Fugro Group, Fugro Environmental are able to task specific satellites to acquire targeted imagery to record current images of the survey area
  • GIS2

    Environmental GIS

The use of GIS in environmental disciplines of the oil and gas industry aids decision making and provides supporting material and evidence for legislative objectives
  • Deepwater1

    Deepwater Surveys

Fugro Environmental are capable of conducting both fully comprehensive environmental baseline surveys and habitat mapping surveys in water depths up to 1500m or more
  • Intertidal1

    Intertidal and Terrestrial Surveys

Field scientists from Fugro Environmental are experienced in conducting intertidal and terrestrial surveys to establish environmental sensitivity indices as well as delineate any sensitive habitats such as mangroves
  • Mammal1

    Marine Mammal Surveys

Fugro Environmental can provide marine mammal observers to keep a dedicated watch during the hours of daylight for any marine mammals in the vicinity of the survey area
  • Reporting2

    Environmental Reporting

Fugro Environmental have access to specialist laboratories to analyse water, sediment and air quality samples for a vast array of physico-chemical and faunal parameters
  • Analysis1

    Sample Analysis

The majority of analyses can be conducted using Fugro Operating Companies (OPCO’s) which allows a greater degree of control over the final stages of an environmental project
