Protected Habitat Surveys

Fugro Environmental have a wide range of experience in conducting site assessments for protected habitats across the world.  These can include:

UK Sector:

  • Potential annex I habitats as identified by the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) (UK sector)
  • Pockmarks
  • Sandbanks
  • Biogenic Reefs (e.g. Sabellaria spinulosa)
  • Stony or Rocky reefs

Marine Conservation Zones (MCZ) as identified by Natural England and the JNCC in conjunction with the Marine Management Organisation.

 

Norwegian Sector:

Vulnerable environmental resources identified in Chapter 10 of the Norwegian Regulations Relating to Conducting Petroleum Activities.

 

Worldwide:

Established environmentally sensitive habitats such as:

  • Warm-water corals
  • Seagrass beds
  • Mangrove swamps
  • Salt-marshes
  • Maerl beds

Sensitivity assessment criteria are typically based on EC and EU regulations if there is limited local information available

    Annex I Habitat Surveys

    Fugro Environmental have a wide range of experience in conducting site assessments for protected habitats. These can include areas identified by OSPAR and UKBAP as well as the JNCC
  • Norwegian2

    Norwegian Habitat Survey

    The aims of the Norwegian Habitat Survey are to identify vulnerable environmental resources using geophysical data, which are investigated further using sub-sea camera / ROV
  • WarmWater2

    Warm-Water Habitat Surveys

    Vulnerable areas are identified from all available geophysical data and sites are then selected for further investigation. Fugro Environmental acquires high resolution digital stills and video footage of the suspected habitats
