Site Surveys (Drilling Hazard Surveys)

Detailed knowledge of the potential hazards which may affect a drilling rig is critical during offshore exploration and production of oil and gas.  Key considerations are:
  • Shallow gas
  • Anchoring conditions
  • Top hole stability
  • Foundation of jack up rigs
  • Gas hydrates
  • Soil/slope stability
The consequences and costs of operational failure of a drilling rig are significant.  The key element when compiling a drilling hazard report is to obtain, process and evaluate the appropriate data.  Fugro Survey interprets 3D exploration seismic data as part of the hazard report.  This complements the high-resolution seabed and seismic data which is specifically acquired, processed and interpreted for the project being undertaken.

Data from drilling hazard surveys is acquired with the aim of supporting plans for rapid development.  As the survey specifications change, more data can be acquired over larger areas which assists in the evaluation of different production concepts.
