Training

FUGRO SURVEY LIMITED recognises that training forms an integral part of its Working Safely process and is a major factor in the achievement of its corporate objectives. Provision of adequate training is a line management responsibility and is detailed in the Managing and Developing People process in the IMS.

As a result the company provides:

  • a system for identifying training needs;
  • proper allocation of responsibilities;
  • training to cover all levels of staff from senior management to new employees;
  • analysis of special training needs;
  • a continuous process of training development and review/assessment.
An annual interview between employee and Department Manager provides information and feedback on an employee's performance with regard to specific objectives and this is followed up to ensure that objectives are being properly addressed.
The overall aim is the development of employee's in line with the goals of the organisation

Fugro Offshore Competence Assessment Standard (FOCAS)
FOCAS is a competency-oriented human resource database that has been developed by Fugro for defining, managing and recording the competence and experience of its staff in their specialised areas of operation. For each staff position, it defines a minimum level of competence and training required and provides the means for assessing and recording these skills against the standards defined by Fugro.

The competency standards are organised into various groups, including occupational skills, health, safety & environmental skills, human/behavioral factors and management & organisational skills. FOCAS has been designed to be extensible, and so additional skills and competencies can be added to the system as best practice and business requirements change.

As personnel undertake training or field experience, details of these activities can be stored in FOCAS. Periodic assessments of competency can also be undertaken on the job by senior staff or as part of an annual performance review and recorded. Extensive database query facilities allow identification of skill summaries and skills gaps to be made to assist in managing competence and training and in planning future training activities.
