Nearshore Geophysical and Hydrographic Survey Services

The nearshore and shallow water environment presents unique problems for the detailed seabed and sub-sea assessments critical to cost-effective design and installation of marine construction projects. Fugro Survey Limited has addressed these needs in a dedicated nearshore survey unit that offers a wealth of specialist expertise and affordable nearshore hydrographic and geophysical survey services.

Our purpose-built nearshore survey vessel, M/V Fugro Surveyor, is road transportable for rapid mobilisation and launching throughout Europe. Based on a proven catamaran design, the vessel is classified to MCA Class 3 enabling operations up to 20 miles from a safe haven. The vessel is permanently fitted with a basic survey package of StarFix.HP DGPS positioning and advanced, integrated navigation software and single beam echo sounder. Additional equipment for geophysical survey, swathe bathymetry and inspection survey is drawn from the extensive resources of the Fugro Group as required.

Our hand-picked nearshore survey personnel have been trained in the multidisciplines of surveying, equipment operation and maintenance and the processing and presentation of results. A number are also qualified coastal skippers and boat drivers. With access on demand to 24hr technical support available from the Fugro Group, you can be confident your survey requirement is in safe, professional and accurate hands. Our nearshore survey approach provides a highly cost effective platform with exceptional versatility, that can be adapted and tailored to precisely match your project requirements.

Nearshore survey capabilities include:

  • Single beam and multibeam echo sounder operations for detailed bathymetric charting in support of engineering and construction projects, navigation surveys, resource evaluation and conservancy.
  • Side scan sonar surveys for detailed seabed mapping and the location and identification of man-made objects such as debris, shipwrecks, UXOs and sub-sea structures.
  • Seismic profiler surveys for the investigation of sub-sea geology.
  • Pre-route surveys for sub-sea cables and pipelines. Detailed corridor mapping provides the essential raw material for the design and installation of linear structures in shallow water.
  • Acoustic inspection surveys for sub-sea installations, pipelines and cables.
A number of other specialist survey services can be provided by Fugro Survey Limited and by other companies in the Fugro Group, in an integrated, seamless service for nearshore and shallow water survey.
  • Geotechnical sampling, testing and analysis with Fugro Limited and Alluvial Mining Limited. Engineering design, trenching evaluation and depth of burial assessments can be provided.
  • Environmental sampling and seabed photography with Fugro Survey Limited's Environmental Science group. Macrofaunal identification, chemical and physical sampling and analysis as well as habitat mapping can be provided.
  • Spillage monitoring and oceanographic surveys with Fugro Geos.
The integrated approach to multidisciplinary surveys starts with tendering and project planning and doesn't finish until the final report.
