Cartesian Tool Deployment Unit
|
The Tooling Deployment Unit (TDU) provides significant advantages over manipulator based
intervention by providing a stable, controlled platform from which to perform such operations.
The TDU can be supplied with tooling to carry out the following generic tasks:
- Rotary and linear valve operation/actuation
- Control jumper stab-plate connections
- Fluid pressurisation and injection
It consists of a tool skid designed to fit most work-class ROVs and is usually mounted on the
aft of the vehicle – an arrangement that eliminates any significant loss of ROV
functionality. The neutrally buoyant TDU is designed to minimise ROV electrical & hydraulic
power demands and provides a centralised control interface with integral cameras.
Following deployment of the ROV to the worksite, the skid is designed to lock to a
standard ISO twin docking interface and can then perform a variety of intervention tasks on
trees, manifolds and other subsea hardware through its Cartesian deployment arrangement.
High Torque Tool rotary valve functions are controlled through a proportional torque system. This enables
surface control of the torque tool output during intervention hence providing more flexibility and eliminating the
requirement to return to surface to re-set the output for a different valve or operation.
Significant features of the Fugro’s TDU includes :
- the ability to record valve operating data for future reference
- a locus that exceeds ISO 13828-8 requirements
- support functions include four lights and up to four cameras
- dedicated support container in which the TDU may be transported and maintained.
